About Reshma Qureshi walks at New York Fashion Week:
Reshma Qureshi, a 19-year-old acid attack survivor girl and campaigner for the #EndAcidSale movement & #TakeBeautyBack, has walked the New York Fashion week runway, in what she called a life-changing experience.
Since Ms Qureshi was attacked by her brother-in-law in 2004, pinned down by his friends and her face doused in acid, she has become the face of a campaign to end the open sale of acid in India.
Reshma opened the show for Indian designer Archana Kochhar, looking absolutely stunning in a white floor-length dress with colorful, patterned panels and a delicate silver headpiece.
Ms Qureshi was invited to take part in Fashion Week by FTL Moda, a fashion production company committed to challenging industry stereotypes of beauty and which last year invited Australian model Madeline Stuart, who has Down Syndrome, to take part.
“I never thought in my wildest dreams that something like this would happen to me,” she said, “and that I would be coming to such a big place to walk on such a big stage.”
Ms Qureshi brushed off nerves to stride the runway like a pro in a cream and floral floor-length gown on Thursday, the first official day of New York Fashion Week.
